(2023-25)
The US State Department's Conflict Observatory was a consortium of researchers tasked with documenting evidence of potential war crimes and other atrocities committed during Russia's war against Ukraine.
Cultural Violence and Civilian Deaths in Syria
In this National Science Foundation project, we partnered with the Uppsala Conflict Data Program to analyze patterns of cultural destruction and civilian deaths in Syria's civil war.
SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL PATTERNS OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL LOOTING
This project develops novel geospatial analysis to identify patterns of archaeological looting in Lower Egypt and how the broader contextual factors influence these patterns.
QUANTIFYING ART CRIME and the global antiquities trade
Is art crime really the third-largest illicit trade, after narcotics and weapons? Why do estimates of its value range so dramatically? These are fundamental questions for which CURIA has developed novel approaches.
